Poor pitch conditions forced Thomas Schaaf and co. to act Wednesday as the team moved from the "very wet and very deep" usual training grounds to the number 13 pitch, meaning the players would be training on artificial turf instead of grass.
"That was the best solution today. We can only hope that the weather gets a bit better now. The biggest problem is the extensive moisture on the natural grass," said Schaaf about the current, disadvantageous pitch conditions at the Weser Stadium training grounds.
The Werder coaching staff had to temporarily hold their breath as Aleks Stevanovic left training early after the Serbian had made a wrong move on the artificial turf. But Stevanovic provided some relief shortly thereafter, saying: "I was at the doctor and the tendon in the left ankle is somewhat irritated. Now I have to see how looks tomorrow. But maybe I can be back at training."
Raphael Wolf meanwhile was able to complete Wednesday's training without a problem after returning to training a day earlier. "It's fun to finally be back on the pitch. I don't have any pain and would like to return to the game squad as quickly as possible," said the keeper, who has worked his way back to team training since his hip operation in early December.
