The first match-up this season against Cologne was a happy day for all Werder fans. After trailing 2-0, Claudio Pizarro scored three goals to turn it into a 3-2 victory. It was the Peruvian's only hat-trick during his Bundesliga career.
But the 33-year-old Pizarro would rather look forward to the future than towards the first match-up. "I don't even really remember that I scored a hat-trick," said "Piza" with a grin following Wednesday's training. But he knows what the team wants on Saturday after Cologne. "We want to win. We are in a difficult stage and it's very important that we get three points now," said Pizarro.
Pizarro trained in the morning with 20 teammates. Niclas Füllkrug, Tom Trybull and Florian Hartherz were back in Bremen and on the training grounds after taking a performance test with the German U19 national team. Naldo, Philip Bargfrede and Sebastian Boenisch were unable to practice due to their injuries.
Sokratis meanwhile is on a good way back after his knee injury, completing an individual running session. "Everything is okay. I don't have any pain," said the Greek international. "Tomorrow I will train again with the team and I feel fit enough for the game on Saturday."
