By the latest Monday afternoon, the Green-Whites started looking forward following their 1-0 home loss against Wolfsburg. Thomas Schaaf's players went through their first training session of the week as the season nears its end. And Werder have a four-point gap on the relegation spot with two matches to play with the newly-crowned Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund coming to Weser Stadium on Saturday. Could it be an advantage or disadvantage that Dortmund have locked up their title? "They are champions and can play relaxed now," said Marko Marin. "They don't have any pressure." The 22-year-old emphasized that "Borussia's situation shouldn't mean a thing to us. We cannot worry about what Dortmund do." Coach Schaaf agreed with his playmaker ahead of the showdown with the Black-Yellows. "I am not thinking about Dortmund. We have to get our things in order," said Schaaf.

But in order to gain three points against Dortmund, quite a bit must change. "We had a lot more ball possession and won more challenges," Marin said about the Wolfsburg game. "But we were missing the most essential part. We didn't score the goals." That's another reason why the Green-Whites hope for the return of Sandro Wagner. Werder's top goal-getter in recent weeks was unable to return to team training on Monday but believes his ankle issue will be better in the coming days. "It feels really good again," said the striker after another individual workout in the weight room Monday afternoon. "I hope that I can be fit in time for the last home match of the season," added the 23-year-old. It remains unclear however when Denni Avdic and Tim Borowski will be available again after both have only completed individual sessions.
