Why did that happen in the first Cup game? Where were all the positive aspects from the pre-season? Why could we not do more after missing the penalty? Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf was dealing with these questions and many more two days after the German DFB Cup exit at third division side Heidenheim.
"We have to see to it that we get structure back in our game and improve our play, go into more challenges and especially that the positive aspects that we had previously shown are brought to the forefront," said Schaaf after the end of Monday's afternoon training.
Striker Claudio Pizarro could undoubtedly help the situation improve. "I feel good. In three to four days I could possibly train with the team again," said the Peruvian attacker. Tim Borowkski meanwhile missed training with an ankle injury while Clemens Fritz is dealing with an Achilles tendon issue. And Onur Ayik completed his first individual training on the pitch after his serious knee injury.
