Many Werder fans breathed a sigh of relief when they read about the contract extension of Santiago Garcia on WERDER.DE. ‘Santi' has already worked his way into the hearts of the fans in his first season with the Green-Whites. The spectators haven't just taken a liking to his passionate style of play but also to his open and friendly disposition.
Even just his goal celebration shows how special the connection is between Garcia and the fans. Regardless if it was against Leverkusen, Hannover or most recently against Hoffenheim - going over to the stands and celebrating with the fans is the 25-year-old's trademark. In general, the Argentinean praised the Werder supporters. "I can only thank all of the fans for their support. They helped me and the team incredibly this season," said an overjoyed Garcia Thursday afternoon.
While it would hardly be a surprise if the full back plays on Saturday against Hertha Berlin, there is still a question mark about Cedrick Makiadi's availability. The Congolese did return to team training after his Patella tendon inflammation but it's unclear if he can play. "We have to wait and see how he does in the final two training sessions before the match," said head coach Robin Dutt. "But I am confident that he will be available on Saturday."
Definitely out will be Ludovic Obraniak, who will watch the final home match of the season from the stands with a bruised calf, as Dutt confirmed on Thursday.
