Altogether the mood was still positive after the game from the night before. “We had a very good game. You can see that we have found a good way,” said Schaaf. The coach was impressed with the game by Lukas Schmitz. “Sure, he made some mistakes but altogether he had a good game. He had a lot of ball touches, was always running, also because he was on the left side we were able to do some things there,” said Schaaf.
There was also positive news from the training group of banged up and injured players. Tim Borowski believes he will return to team training on Thursday. And things are looking up for the trio of Claudio Pizarro, Sebastian Prödl and Naldo. “My goal of being ready to play for the first game day is realistic. I am only missing the quick movements with the ball. I think I will be back latest in two weeks, I hope even sooner,” said Pizarro. “Sometimes I have the feeling that both of my teammates are even making a step forward. We are training together and I am very excited when they can go again.”
Wednesday afternoon meant the end of the training camp in Donaueschingen for four young Werder players as Predrag and Aleksandar Stevanovic as well as Felix Kroos and Marcus Mlynikowski left for Bremen and will have the first match day in the Third League with Werder’s U23 team.
