The outside conditions at Weser Stadium Sunday morning were inviting with the promise of enjoying the day. Children, fathers, joggers, walkers, pensioners and partners in love wanted to use the wonderful autumn weather to soak in some sunshine before the start of winter. Regardless of the good weather conditions, a group of fans came to the Weser Stadium training grounds to watch the first training after the bitter defeat against Gladbach. But they had to wait 30 minutes before the Green-Whites took the pitch. It wasn't quite as comfortable and relaxed for the Werder players as they worked on getting past the 5-0 loss in the catacombs of Weser Stadium.
"Of course the disappointment is still there. This morning we called up the things from Gladbach from the players' minds in pictures. We were careless on defence. I didn't like that. We will regularly look at scenes over the week and work on them," said head coach Thomas Schaaf about the internal meeting with the team, which also was attended by manager Klaus Allofs. "We did not want to leave the team alone with all this. We gave them a chance to say where they see the problems. We addressed it clearly without getting out the axe," said Allofs about the Sunday morning meeting. "But it wasn't just about addressing the mistakes but also showing what is possible. Gladbach lived off their excitement. I did not sense that we wanted to use the chance," continued Allofs.
While Allofs was able to get an impression of the team on the pitch directly after the talk, Aaron Hunt was not with the team. "He has a gastro-intestinal problem," said Schaaf after training. Schaaf did not say if Hunt would take part in the next session on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
