The Werder Bremen fans provided a unique atmosphere and an extraordinary support which carried the team throughout the home match against 1899 Hoffenheim. The players, all of the Green-Whites executives and head coach Thomas Schaaf say thank you!
Schaaf felt it was necessary to make an extra statement about the support during the post-match press conference. "Before I say anything to the match, I have to speak about the support of the fans," he began. "What we experienced here was unique, remarkable and extraordinary. But I didn't expect anything different. The identification with the club is a very special one in Bremen, and I know that the fans could tell that the team justified this support. I know that the fans have the sense of giving it their all next week just like the team. I would like to take this opportunity to give a big thank you to the fans."
The course of the day was truly extraordinary. Thousands of fans came out to sing chants and songs as they welcomed the team bus to Weser Stadium shortly after 2 p.m. Shortly before the opening whistle, all four grandstands were going crazy with the East Curve providing a breathtaking choreography. It was pure passion, which carried over to the team on the pitch. It's no surprise that the players bowed to the fans even after dramatically giving away two points in the final minutes. "That today was the best atmosphere I have ever experienced here. We felt great encouragement before the match, during the entire 90 minutes and also after the final whistle. That pushed us forward," said Sebastian Prödl. "The fans today had a Champions League quality. Unfortunately we only had Bundesliga quality for 85 minutes. I have a great respect for the supporters. I have never experienced something like that," added Nils Petersen.
Now Werder hope to have the 12th man again on board for the home match against Eintracht Frankfurt! Werder need Bremen and Bremen needs Werder!"
