What a difference: Three days ago Philipp Bargfrede and Marko Marin were overwhelmed with the strength of a pony at the Bremen horse race track. On Wednesday, they blasted down the ADAC road training course in Nohra near Erfurt with one of the race cars from Volkswagen.

The Green-Whites were met there by 10 driving trainers from the Volkswagen Driving Experience team as well as race car drivers Daniel Abt (Formula 3) and Kris Heidorn (current Scirocco R-Cup title holder) and 35 race cars to teach the footballers a bit more respect for the driver's wheel. It was the perfect compliment to football for the players.

For many Green-Whites, driving a race car or the 580 PS Audi R8 was like scoring a hat-trick. "It is really crazy what these drivers can do. Unfortunately the track isn't long enough. You don't want to get out," said Markus Rosenberg after his lap around the track.

Vander, Wesley and Co. had to prove their skills in four stations. And it wasn't just the players getting behind the wheel. Managers Klaus Allofs and Klaus Filbry, honorary captain Frank Baumann, the kit manager and bus driver also gladly accepted the Volkswagen challenge. The day was finished off with a barbeque for the team before they continued their preparations for the season.
