SV Werder were not always so lucky with good weather during preparations in the last couple years. But this year is totally different. The sun was regularly shining on the Green-Whites already on Norderney and in Zillertal and still is out this week in Blankenhain with high temperatures.
But the temperatures - about 30 degrees Celsius in the shade - have not really had a major influence on the conditions or the training work. "It is actually very hot at the moment, but the people are really going at it and making sure that the grounds are in very good condition with daily watering," said head coach Robin Dutt.
Nils Petersen confirmed his coach's impression. "It is very warm but we have superb conditions here. We are sweating already before we leave the hotel. And then when you work out physically very intensively, it is very strenuous. But we are working our way through it in order to be top fit," said Petersen.
The motto for Werder is: hard work but not at all costs. "We of course are not taking any health risks. When the doctor doesn't say that it's not healthy, then we should even pick up the tempo in this stage of the preparations," said Dutt. But there haven't been any victims of the heat. "The guys aren't showing any signs of problems with the heat in training." And of course, getting enough fluids and a good nutrition is important that it stays that way.
