Head coach Thomas Schaaf gave his team a short speech to end the final training of the 2011-12 season. "It is important to train together again and finish off the season," said the coach after Tuesday's session. "That way we could check and see if everything was okay with the players so that they come back from holidays healthy."
Those Werder players not playing for their respective national teams can now head into their holidays. One such player is midfielder Aaron Hunt. "I will be in Bremen three or four more days and then I will travel to Croatia with my wife. And then I am going to Turkey with my son," said Hunt of his summer plans. And of course Hunt will remain fit. "We all have a training schedule for our time off. I will work out in the fitness rooms of the hotels. In the last couple weeks before training starts up again I will prepare intensively with a fitness trainer in Cologne," added Hunt.
Schaaf meanwhile has plenty to do in the training-free time. "We still have a lot of work ahead of us. After all, we have to increase our roster. But I will have a few days off as well. The season was taxing and cost a lot of energy. A little bit of relaxation does good," said Schaaf.
The Werder players will meet up again on the Weser Stadium training grounds in about six weeks. Schaaf will have his players return on Thursday 5 July 2012 at 10 a.m. for the first time in preparation for the 2012-13 season.
