SV Werder Bremen and Richard Strebinger have agreed to a contract extension for three years until 30 June 2017, as Werder manager of sports Thomas Eichin announced at Thursday's official press conference before the away match against Mainz 05.
"Richard has developed quite well with us in the last two seasons. He is a young, active player with strong reflexes. He worked himself to the starting keeper with the U23s and there's a good reason why he's been in the professional squad quite often," said Eichin.
The current U21 Austrian national team keeper was also happy about being able to stay in northern Germany. "I feel really good with Werder. I am playing here regularly, which is very important for me. Now I have the chance to take another step forward. My goal of course is to play a good role with Werder in the Bundesliga," said Strebinger.
The Wiener Neustadt native arrived in Bremen in the summer of 2012 from Hertha Berlin, where he played in the second team. Strebinger has played a leading role with Werder's Regionalliga team as the 1.94m keeper has appeared in 29 matches between the posts for the U23s.
Strebinger has also played with the Austrian youth national teams since 2008, having most currently played five matches with the U21 national team. With Werder's professional team, Strebinger has already been included on the game roster 18 times.
