Observant fans will have noticed that while Raphael Wolf and Raif Husic have trained diligently with keeper coach Marco Langner the last few days, Richard Strebinger had missed the sessions. Werder's top reserve keeper had to sit out due to slight back problems. But Strebinger's comeback to team training is in sight after completing the first running session on Tuesday.
"I'm doing a lot better. I had some problems with my back but I have been pain free for a few days now," said Strebinger, who missed a large portion of the season last year with back problems. Inflammation in the spine was the reason why the 21-year-old had to sit out.
Because of his past, Strebinger has slowly been making his way back to training. "I have become more cautious because of my last injury. I would rather wait a day or two longer," said the keeper.
But the Austrian U21 international did not have a total break in training. ‘Richi' worked together with the medical staff on his comeback in the weight room of Weser Stadium. "I am in the middle of my rehab training. I just recently worked on stabilisation and strength drills. Today I even was running again. And everything in a pain-free area," said a satisfied Strebinger. "The move movement I have, the better."
Even though Strebinger is making daily developments, he still cannot say when it's possible for him to return to team training. But it cannot last too much longer until Marco Langner once again has three keepers with which he can keep busy.
