"It's the greatest for me to be back playing football after so many months away. That's all that counts." The relief was easy to see on Aleksandar Stevanovic's face after his return to team training in the middle of the week. A torn knee ligament, two broken collarbones and plenty of rehab - since his transfer to Werder, the Serbian has dealt with almost only injury concerns. But the younger of the Stevanovic brothers is hoping to finally put this period behind him.
"It's damn tough when you miss a full 12 months in one and a half years and can only train normally for half a year. It just sucks," said Stevanovic. The Essen native transferred from Schalke's A youth side to SVW in the summer of 2011 and suffered a torn knee ligament in November 2011. Then in the 2012-13 season preparations, the midfielder suffered a broken collarbone. Shortly after his return to training, he suffered another broken collarbone.
Despite the constant setbacks, Stevanovic says today he never felt he would not make a comeback. "I always worked hard to get back to training with the guys on the pitch. I still want to do something here. My dream is not yet over!"
