The past few days have been very special for Predrag Stevanovic. His first two goals for Werder's U23 team "were a great thing" said Stevanovic, who has been somewhat of an unknown for many Werder fans until now. The midfield talent after all only came to the Weser from Gelsenkirchen during the winter break. Stevanovic has played six games for the Green-Whites' third division team and scored twice against Braunschweig.
"Gives me motivation to push more"
Just one day after scoring two goals against the leaders of the third division last Wednesday, the 20-year-old learned he was being called up to Werder's Bundesliga squad. "It's a super feeling to be with the A-squad for the first time," said 'Preddy', as his teammates call him on the training grounds.
The Bundesliga stage was not completely new for the Serbian junior international. "I was on Schalke's Bundesliga squad one time," remembered the Essen native, who was called to the Royal Blues' side by then Schalke coach Fred Rutten in late January in Hannover. "It's nice that Thomas Schaaf is giving me the chance to showcase myself," said Stevanovic, who is very much looking forward to Werder's up-coming showdown on Saturday against his former club. "Of course it would be great if I could meet some of my former teammates there, but we have an enormously important game with the U23s in Heidenheim where I would like to help the team be successful," said Stevanovic.
"My goal is definitely to play sometime in Weser Stadium in front of this great crowd. I will continue to give my all in training and with the U23s so that can happen soon," said the young talent. The 20-year-old's clear improvement has not gone lost on Schaaf. "He is really going in the right direction. We are very satisfied with him," said the Werder coach.
