The search began at the beginning of the week. Werder coach Thomas Schaaf took over the role of detective, got out his magnifying glass and did all the observing, analysing and interrogating possible with his coaching staff. The goal was to find out who would replace Werder's top goal scorer Claudio Pizarro in the home match against Hoffenheim on Saturday (live ticker on WERDER.DE starting at 3:15 p.m.).
"Without Claudio Pizarro we will be missing our best goal scorer and that is not good. But it also offers the chance to others who have not played as much as they would like and prove themselves. The question is what each player can make of the chance," said Schaaf, who will have to do without Mikael Silvestre against Hoffenheim. "He is sick and is not an option for Saturday."
Whether attack, midfield or defence - a solution will not be found to replace the Peruvian goal-getter. "We will miss Claudio, that is certain. We have to try to make up for his loss as a team," said Markus Rosenberg.
Schaaf nominated the following 17 points for the home match against Hoffenheim: Wiese, Mielitz, Sokratis, Affolter, Fritz, Hartherz, Schmitz, Boenisch, Bargfrede, Ignjovski, Ekici, Junuzovic, Trybull, Marin, Rosenberg, Arnautovic, Füllkrug
