The ball was laying a few meters from the goal ready for a free kick in Friday's final training. Naldo ran up and blasted a shot past Tim Wiese into the left corner. The Brazilian could possibly repeat that on Saturday in the game against Mainz since Naldo is on the Werder squad for the first time this year after recovering from his knee problems.
"I am happy to be back again," said Naldo after training. But the centre back will at first remain on the bench. "I am not well enough yet to play 90 minutes. But if the coach needs me, I am there." Thomas Schaaf talked to Naldo on the training grounds on Friday about a possible appearance. "We have seen that he is doing well with his movements," confirmed the coach. Marko Marin will also be available for the Green-Whites against Mainz. "The session was really good. I want to give my all tomorrow and ideally would like to play 90 minutes," said the midfielder Friday.
In the games against Dortmund and Hannover, both Tim Wiese (facial injury) and Claudio Pizarro (suspension) were missing. But both are options for Saturday. A young fan asked Schaaf if Wiese would start the Mainz match between the posts. "I don't know yet. And I'm not going to tell you," Schaaf answered with a grin and a wink. The coach is also pondering if Philipp Bargfrede could play after a muscle strain.
Schaaf nominated the following 18 points for the game against Mainz: Wiese, Mielitz, Fritz, Affolter, Füllkrug, Marin, Sokratis, Hartherz, Rosenberg, Bargfrede, Trybull, Schmitz, Junuzovic, Silvestre, Ignjovski, Pizarro, Naldo, Boenisch.
