Werder centre back Sokratis will be leaving the Green-Whites and join Borussia Dortmund. Both clubs agreed to a transfer of the Greek defender in the summer but did not release details of the move, as manager Thomas Eichin confirmed on Monday.
"It is part of SV Werder's philosophy to deal with an offer is it makes sense for both sides. And the conditions in this case fit for all involved," said Eichin. "Pappas did a very good job for Werder the last two years. We wish him all the best for the continuation of his career."
"I had two years with Werder from which I profited very much," said Sokratis Papastathopoulos. "Unfortunately it didn't go as well sporting wise as we all had hoped. It was then time for me to take the next step. I would like to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for accompanying me on my way and helping me. Werder Bremen will also remain in my heart."
The Greek international arrived at SV Werder in 2011 from FC Genua. He played 59 Bundesliga matches in the two seasons and scored two goals and also appeared in two German DFB Cup matches.
