It was only a moment of shock, luckily. After Werder's Greek centre back Sokratis went into a challenge with Wesley, the 23-year-old international Sokratis remained laying on the ground. He pointed to his calf, and Werder's sports physiotherapist Holger Berger ran to Sokratis and treated him on the pitch. The Greek defender could not continue thereafter, leaving training.
"It's nothing wild. He got scratched up. It was a normal challenge which happens often in training," said Thomas Schaaf after the session Thursday afternoon 3 February 2012. The Werder coach said his defender is not questionable for Sunday's match in Freiburg. Whether Sebastian Boenisch will be called back into the Green-Whites' squad after a 17-month injury break is still unclear. "What Basti is missing is game practice. He is not yet 100 percent fit strength-wise though he was able to train this week. I would like to wait for the final training to make a final decision," said Schaaf about the leftback. The Polish international collected some game practice with the U23 team after his cartilage issue. Boenisch played his first competitive match against Rot-Weiß Erfurt and played a full 90 minutes before playing 84 minutes in Burghausen last weekend.
