Sokratis Papastathopoulos is a thing of the past, at least regarding his last name. The player with the longest surname in the Bundesliga will now be "officially" called solely Sokratis. The German Football League (DFL) has now listed him with only his first name on its player authorisation list.

Sports wise the Green-Whites supporters can look forward to the North Derby against Hamburg on Saturday 10 September 2011 (live ticker on WERDER.DE starting at 6:15 p.m.). Whenever Werder's new Greek takes the pitch no blade of grass is safe from him. Sokratis goes into every challenge with sheer passion, does not lose any ball and at the same time pushes forward to feed his teammates with crosses. His style is hard but fair and in the last five matches "Papas" has played a full 90 minutes each time.

"He doesn't shy way from any challenge, going into them very intensively. Sokratis believes he can win every challenge. He can do a lot of good things even though he is still very young. But he already has a lot of experience which profits his game," said head coach Thomas Schaaf about the 23-year-old.
