The Werder Bremen training grounds wasn't the only place where things were bustling Sunday but also the Weser Stadium press area. Werder's new head coach Viktor Skripnik answered journalists' questions for 50 minutes. WERDER.DE compiled the most important statements.
Viktor Skripnik about ...
... his game philosophy: "You could see already with the U23s that I like to play attractive and attacking football but you also have to orientate yourself to the personnel available. I would like to play aggressively and offensively, just like the team did when I was a player. For the coach, those may have been heart attack matches, but they were the best for the spectators.
... the up-coming German DFB Cup match in Chemnitz: "It's good that we play again the day after tomorrow because the players don't have time to have unnecessary thoughts. That will not be an easy match for us. They are currently third and playing for promotion. My team cannot go into the match big-headed but we should play with confidence."
... assistant coach Torsten Frings: "We have known each other for nearly 20 years, played and worked together with Werder and always stayed in contact. You could say that we are friends. The guy is a professional, he knows exactly what he's doing. I can rely on him. He plays an important role for me."
... the youth players on the professional squad: "We have many young players with great potential. It's been our philosophy recently that players like Aycicek, Zander, Busch, Hüsing and Rehfeldt train with the professionals and collect playing time on the weekend. But that doesn't just happen overnight. They guys have to prove themselves in every training. There's a difference between the Regionalliga and the Bundesliga."
... about the current sports situation: "I know the feeling of playing against the relegation. I experienced that as a player with Werder in 1999. Baumann, Frings and I collected that experience. I still remember it. I was injured but still always took responsibility, pushing the team in the East Curve with the fans and feeling responsible. We share the success and failures with the team."
