Almost a month before the beginning of the Christmas season, Werder's medical staff gave Mikael Silvestre the biggest early present the Frenchman could have imagined. They gave the 34-year-old the green light for "partial participation" in team training Wednesday morning 23 November 2011. "It was a nice feeling. Everything is okay. After the last stress test, I am happy with the doctor's decision," said Silvestre following the first session back with his teammates.

One day after Sebastian Boenisch made his partial return, Werder's Frenchman marked his return from a cartilage defection which was diagnosed in his knee at the beginning of this season's preparations. Silvestre has been following a rehab program since July with a strict schedule including "I would like to get back to the team in November". Silvestre has recently been working with Werder's physiotherapists individually with the ball on one of the other pitches on Bremen's training grounds before taking the next step on Wednesday. "The earlier I can train with the team the better it is for me," said the former French international, who is not making any big plans on a comeback in the immediate future. "It will take some time," said Silvestre.

It remains unclear if Silvestre will get another early Christmas present by playing in the final Bundesliga match of 2011 on 17 December 2011 at Schalke or if he will have to wait until the first game of the second half at Kaiserslautern on 21 January 2012. But what is definitely clear is that the Green-Whites supporters are definitely anxious to have him back.
