+++ Endurance run instead of tactical questions. Instead of working with the tactical board, the Werder players were using their running shoes Monday morning. After a morning workout in the weight room, it was out for an endurance session with five laps around the Finnbahn track in the Bürgerpark for Fritz, Di Santo and Co. And that despite a strong running performance in Mainz as the Green-Whites ran 120.1 kilometres last weekend, for the third-best showing of the match day. "We are fit. We have proven that in the last few games and in the cup. That is thanks to Robin Dutt who really prepared us well in the pre-season. That can be important in such matches when you have the conditioning and energy to save points or even get a victory in the final minutes," Sebastian Prödl said about that on Sunday on the Sportclub show. +++
+++ Ukrainian debutant: Viktor Skripnik has lived along the Weser for the last 18 years. By now, he feels like a real Bremen native. But the "Beckham of Ukraine", as the fans used to call him during his playing days, was born in Novomoskovsk, a suburb of the metropolis Dnipropetrovsk. He made his first step as a footballer at Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk before coming to Bremen in 1996. Skripnik is the first Bundesliga coach from Ukraine and the 70th foreign-born coach in Germany's top flight. +++
+++ Deep breath on Tuesday: The team has some intensive days behind them, but especially for Viktor Skripnik and the coaching staff. Since being named the head coach on Saturday, the Ukrainian has been going through a real marathon - training sessions, two enormously important matches, hundreds of fans wanting pictures and photographs in addition to numerous media chats. The 44-year-old finally was able to take a deep breath in Mainz. "I am most looking forward to Tuesday, I will be giving the guys off," said Skripnik with a grin. He and the team deserve the breather after an exciting and successful first week." +++
