SV Werder and Davie Selke have agreed to continue working together and extended their contract by three years until 30 June 2018. The 19-year-old striker and Werder's manager of sport Thomas Eichin finalised the deal Thursday afternoon.

"We are happy that Davie chose SV Werder for the long term. He has shown the potential and proven his commitment. We are certain that he will take another important step in the coming years and will be a joy for all of us," said Eichin. Head coach Robin Dutt added: "We are happy that the work with Davie last year is reflected in his performances and also his contract extension."

"I am very pleased that Werder and the coach give me this trust. For me it was clear that I wanted to stay here. I feel comfortable in the team, the city and the whole environment with the fans, who have supported me from the beginning," said Selke, who arrived in Bremen in January 2013 from 1899 Hoffenheim.

Last year, the 19-year-old striker played in 26 Regionalliga matches for the U23 team and scored nine goals. The German youth international made his Bundesliga debut on the 11th match day last season in the home match against Hannover. His first goal for the professional team came in the German DFB Cup match against FV Illertissen. All told, Selke has played in six Bundesliga matches and one DFB Cup contest.
