Tuesday's training for Theodor Gebre Selassie ended in shock as he broke his hand. And after going through a painful day with the injury and exams in the hospital, the right back underwent surgery and can now look forward positively since the operation was successful.
"The operation went well. Now we have to wait for the hand swelling to go down, then Theo will wear a sleeve. But it will take a few days," said Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf. The coach said it's questionable if Gebre Selassie will be able to play this weekend against Freiburg. "I don't think he will be ready for Saturday but I hope that he will be available again soon," said Schaaf.
There is more hope about Werder's Austrian trio as all three players want to return to training tomorrow. While Marko Arnautovic could not come back on Wednesday, his compatriots Zlatko Junuzovic (muscular problems) and Sebastian Prödl (cold) were able to at least complete some running drills. "It's getting a lot better," said Junuzovic. "We'll have to see if I'm fit quick enough for the weekend."
Sokratis has also caught a cold and was unable to lace up his boots on Wednesday. "Maybe it will be better tomorrow so that he can at least train," hopes Schaaf. The only thing that can help the coach is to wait and see.
