As Theodor Gebre Selassie trotted off the training grounds after Tuesday's session, the Czech international seemed unsatisfied. He was partially able to train with the team for the first time since his broken hand, but he could not go the complete session. The reason was that the protective hand sleeve made out of titanium did not fit as well as hoped. "The sleeve is still too big and heavy. It's an issue when I run," said Gebre Selassie afterwards.
He tested it extensively, doing running drills with and without the ball, sprints and five-on-two drills with teammates - and he kept looking down questionably at his operated left hand. "I have a new appointment today. Hopefully I can get a sleeve that fits better," said ‘Theo', who will return to full team training a day later than expected with a new sleeve. The defender will definitely not be able to play in the test match against Eintracht Braunschweig in the afternoon. But he could possibly play against Bayern Munich on Saturday.
The same could be said about defensive boss Sokratis and deputy captain Aaron Hunt after both missed Tuesday's training with a cold. "They are still too weak," said assistant coach Matthias Hönerbach, who led the training in the absence of head coach Thomas Schaaf. The coach was in London scouting Werder's next opponent Bayern Munich in their Champions League match against Arsenal. The coaching staff hopes that Sokratis and Hunt will be back for tomorrow's session. "We all hope that they are fit enough again for training tomorrow," said Hönerbach.
