Werder defender Theodor Gebre Selassie broke the metacarpal of his left hand during training Tuesday morning as the Czech had to leave the session after about an hour. "I had major pain," said the right back on his way to the changing room. The diagnosis would come a short time later.
The Czech needed an operation, and it was not yet clear how long the defensive ace would not be available to head coach Thomas Schaaf. "It's too bad for Theo that he got injured. We hope that he is available again as soon as possible," said Schaaf.
With Zlatko Junuzovic and Marko Arnautovic already out, Sebastian Prödl became the third Austrian to be out as the 25-year-old missed Tuesday morning's training with a cold. Schaaf could not say when he would see his centre back on the pitch again. "We have to wait until tomorrow and then we will be able to say more," said the Werder coach. Arnautovic had to watch the 4-1 victory in Stuttgart from the stands with muscle problems while Junuzovic twitched his right thigh in the match.
