The away match at Schalke is a trip to the past for Werder player Lukas Schmitz. The 23-year-old transferred from the Ruhr region to the Weser before this season. And on Saturday 17 December 2011 Schmitz returns to his old stomping grounds for the first time. "Of course this is a special match for me. I am looking forward to running into the stadium in which I celebrated my professional debut and seeing all my old friends," said Schmitz.
While the "friends" will be opponents on the pitch Saturday, Schmitz can expect support from the stands. "I had to get quite a few tickets," grinned the left-back. "My family and some friends will be in the stadium and would like to see us win since none of them are Schalke fans," said Schmitz. And the defender definitely wants to pick up a victory on Saturday. "We want to get a good position for the fight for the international spots," said Schmitz, who knows the Green-Whites must improve their record away from home to achieve their goals. "We would like most to qualify for the Champions League, but we cannot have any illusions. That is only possible if we play differently away from home," said Schmitz.
