Off to the capital! SV Werder Bremen will start the 2014-15 season against Hertha BSC Berlin. That was after the German Football League (DFL) announced the schedule in Frankfurt am Main. The match will take place on 23/24 August 2014 at Olympic Stadium.

For the seventh time in the last 10 years, the Green-Whites will start the season on the road. "It is a tight start to the Bundesliga. It reminds you of last year when we had three of the first four matches away from home. But just like then, we will do everything we can to be perfectly prepared to start the season and make the best of it. We have to play against all 17 teams in the Bundesliga and we will not worry about the make-up of the schedule which we cannot influence. You cannot stop the anticipation for the new season," said manager Thomas Eichin.

Midfielder Felix Kroos said: "Of course we would have liked to have started with a home match but last year we saw how it can work out with the victory in Braunschweig. A good start is extremely important and will give us confidence for the following matches. We will do everything we can to start the season with a successful result."
