Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf is using the national team break and travelled to Nyon, Switzerland to take part in the UEFA elite coaching forum. As in previous years, the Bremen coach will be exchanging thoughts with his colleagues about the latest trends in European club football and will return to Bremen on Friday. "I am happy that I have the chance once again to discuss the current developments in club football with my European coaching colleagues," said the head coach before his departure.

The UEFA event, which will be taking place for the 14th time, will include José Mourinho (Real Madrid), Tito Vilanova (FC Barcelona) and Arsène Wenger (Arsenal London). Fellow Bundesliga coach Jürgen Klopp from Borussia Dortmund will also be participating. Werder assistant coaches Wolfgang Rolff and Matthias Hönerbach will be leading training Wednesday morning. In addition to the head coach, also missing from the Weser Stadium training grounds were German youth internationals Tom Trybull and Niclas Füllkrug, who travelled to the U20 national team for a friendly against Poland.
