Head coach Thomas Schaaf was much sought after Thursday afternoon following the end of training. The media members who travelled to training camp were desperate to learn of the latest about the health status of Naldo. The Werder coach was able to answer that question and others about the first 24 hours of training camp.
WERDER.DE wrote down some of the most important statements.
Mr. Schaaf, the first 24 hours gave plenty of reasons for worries. What were the results of the examinations of Naldo last night?
Thomas Schaaf: They showed that he is battling an irritation in the lateral ligament of the left knee. Seriously, we can only say that we have to wait the next couple days to see how it develops. Maybe it will calm down again.
And how do things look with Aaron Hunt? Is it possible that the injury will heal quickly and he can make the trip to Belek?
Thomas Schaaf: No, that is not an issue.
With Mikael Silvestre, Denni Avdic and Sebastian Boenisch, there are three long time injured players here in Belek trying to come back. What impression do you have of them after the first three training sessions?
Thomas Schaaf: With Basti and Denni you can see that physically they are still a bit behind but we are happy that they are far enough along that they can participate in training. Now we have to see how we can manage them over the next couple days, and if there are ready for an appearance against Tashkent, or not yet. Mika has been able to complete training consistently now and is therefore at a higher fitness level than Basti, who still has catching up to do.
Were there also positive aspects in the last 24 hours in Belek?
Thomas Schaaf: Yeah, if you observed training today and watched the training game you could see that both teams were strong. They neutralized one another. Everyone really gave their all and has taken in what we are trying to do. That game was a signal that everyone is actively participating. I hope that remains the case over the coming days.
