SV Werder Bremen have found a successor for the director of sports Frank Baumann, who announced he will be leaving in the summer of 2015. Rouven Schröder, who is currently the sports boss at SpVgg Greuther Fürth, will move to the Green-Whites at the start of the new season and will take over responsibility of the professional team along with manager Thomas Eichin. For the 2014-15 season, Schröder will work alongside Baumann in the position. While Schröder will mainly work on roster planning and scouting, Baumann will focus on connecting the U23 team to the performance academy and the professional team. Both will have the position as director of professional football.

"We have found a first class solution," said Eichin, who worked hard to get an immediate transfer of the new man. "Rouven Schröder was our first choice. We have intensively observed his work of late. He did a good job putting together the roster in Fürth in one and a half years, has proven a good eye for talent and knows the workings of the football business from many perspectives. He is an ambitious guy who identifies fully with our objectives," said Eichin.

Schröder is looking forward to his new role in Bremen. "Werder are among the biggest names in German football so this kind of offer is of course a big honour. After the first talks with Thomas Eichin, I didn't have to think too long about working together with them. He described the goals, the ways of getting there and my perspectives in the role as director of sports. That was enough for me," said the 38-year-old, who will take over his new job on 1 July 2014.

Schröder started his career in professional football in 2000 as a player with then top flight VfL Bochum. After stops with MSV Duisburg and VfB Lübeck, he returned to Bochum and ended his career with NTSV Strand in the amateur Schleswig-Holstein-Liga. While still a player, he served as assistant coach of Bochum's second team in 2009. After an assistant coaching spot with NSTV Strand (2010) and work as a scout and video analyst with Nuremberg (2011-12), he was the coordinator of licensing with Greuther Fürth (2012) before being promoted to sports boss just half a year later.
