SV Werder Bremen and the remaining coaching staff will part ways as co-coaches Wolfgang Rolff and Matthias Hönerbach and goalkeeper coach Michael Kraft will be given leave on Saturday 25 May 2013. The trio celebrated a goal-laden departure with a 20-0 victory in Friday evening's test match against SV Atlas Delmenhorst.
"The season is now over, the team is going into the summer break. A new coach will definitely bring in his own coaching staff. Therefore we decided to take this step. We would like to thank them for the work they did," said manager Thomas Eichin, who informed the team about the moves Friday afternoon. "The three coaches conducted themselves very loyally and professionally despite the recent difficult situation. As part of the Thomas Schaaf team, they played a big part in the successes of the past seasons and will always be welcome back to Werder in the future."
Rolff ends his time with Werder after nine years, coming to the Green-Whites after the league-cup double victory. Hönerbach arrived in 2005 while Kraft joined in January 2006. Together with Schaaf, the trio helped SV Werder to the league cup title in 2006 and the German DFB Cup crown in 2009 and were in the finals of the 2009 UEFA Cup and 2010 German DFB Cup.
