It just wasn't the day for SV Werder! The Green-Whites lost 4-1 at Borussia Mönchengladbach in suffering a clear defeat. "It was certainly a deserved victory for Gladbach, which was a bit too high looking at the share of possession," said Werder coach Robin Dutt.

WERDER.DE collected the reaction after the match:

Thomas Eichin: "We conceded the first goal at a poor moment in time. And then we have to open up after falling behind 2-0, that's football. It was always clear to us that we wouldn't just breeze past everyone. You also need to be realistic. When you play away in Dortmund and Gladbach, you cannot expect to collect points. That was our goal and we started well in both games but they were always able to score a goal with their class. But we now have collected six points in four matches, three of them being away. I think we can build on that."

Zlatko Junuzovic: "We should have pushed forward more often. We unfortunately didn't create enough chances. But after pulling back to within 2-1, we still had the feeling that we could get the equaliser. It of course broke our back when they made it 3-1 five minutes later."

Nils Petersen: "We all knew that we didn't belong up near the top of the table where we were. You cannot forget that we didn't exactly play two fantastic matches to start the season. Still, we don't want to talk badly of the start. We earned six points and then had two difficult tasks away."

Robin Dutt: "Transitioning to the box, Gladbach certainly had the better approach. But altogether, that was an organised effort by us and generally we let the ball move. After pulling back to 2-1, you can smell a comeback and have hopes for a point. It would have been careless therefore on our part to just pack it in at the back after that. But then Gladbach used their class to counter attack us."
