The 42,100 spectators provided for a tremendous atmosphere at Weser Stadium for the home match against 1899 Hoffenheim. And after goals by Aaron Hunt (penalty) and Kevin De Bruyne, Werder had a 2-0 lead with four minutes left and it looked like it would be an incredible afternoon. But then the Green-Whites conceded two goals in the final minutes and had to make do with a 2-2 draw.

WERDER.DE collected reaction to the match in the mixed zone:

Thomas Schaaf: "We had an incredible tempo and really ran a lot. Then the strength was missing and a little bit of the mental clarity. Nothing horrible happened today, just the opposite. We are taking a lot of positives out of this. Besides the result, it was an unbelievable afternoon. We wish it could have had a happy end. But the fact is that we at least achieved the minimum result. We received a lot of support and showed that it was justifiable. At the end of the day, a lot of good happened for us on this extraordinary afternoon."

Nils Petersen: "We are more than disappointed. It feels like a defeat. We led 2-0 until the 84th minute against a direct rival and could have finally bid farewell to the relegation battle. We missed that chance with the late goals. We wanted to win today with fight, passion, will and emotion. We did that very well. But then we didn't watch out twice and were punished. We can only blame ourselves in the end that we could not finish off this kind of game."

Aaron Hunt: "The disappointment is huge. We were not able to bring home the big points. We invested so much, which was not easy in that weather. That made it all the more bitter that we could only get it done until the 85th minute. It's hard to explain how we could let it slip away in the final minutes. We played a good match but did not watch out two times and twice conceded goals through the middle. That cannot happen. We were punished for our errors. Despite a solid performance, the disappointment outweighs any other feeling at the moment."

Clemens Fritz: "We conceded two goals which did not have to be. Altogether we showed a very good match, were aggressive in the challenges and continually tried to push forward. Of course we are very down right now but we can take a lot of positives from this match."
