It took slightly longer than usual for the Werder players to make their way from the pitch following the final whistle in Stuttgart. Drained from the effort, many simply collapsed to the turf at the end of what had been an exhausting match. The 1-1 draw with VfB Stuttgart was hard earned.

They had given their all against a very strong VfB Stuttgart team and kept a promise previously given by the coach, who later commented: "The lads did what they have intended to. We swore that we would react on the pitch with that sort of passion and mentality when we realized that we were having problems in getting our game going," explained coach Robin Dutt after the game.

WERDER.DE gathered in further post match comments:

Zlatko Junuzovic: „We realised that there was little in our favour going forward and that we would have to concentrate on defence. We wanted to play the second half exactly as we had done in the first. I was a bit concerned because I knew that would mean we wouldn't be putting the opponents under any pressure and that would allow them to come at us. What we achieved at the back today was quite exceptional".

Clemens Fritz: „That was very intense today for everyone involved. There were a lot of long balls played and we had a lot of leg work to put in, which tired us out towards the end. In spite of that, we were very concentrated in the defence. We worked hard for the point against Stuttgart, who had a good day and really pushed forward".

Nils Petersen: „That was a tough game. If you are not drained after a match like that, then you did something wrong".

Sebastian Mielitz: „The whole team rescued the point. Stuttgart were very strong but we really earned the point. In the end it was very difficult because we allowed them to really come at us".

Thomas Eichin: „Although we stood so deep. We had hoped to get the odd break forward. A phase of pressure like that is not without its dangers for the home team. With pacy players like we have, a break at the right time can prove costly. In the end though, we were happy with the point".
