Werder have not been beaten in eight straight matches. After three consecutive draws, the Green-Whites finally got a big three points against St. Pauli. Werder now have 38 points and are 11th on the table with an eight-point lead over the relegation zone heading into Sunday's action. The happiness and relief could be felt by all Green-Whites parties after the game in the mixed zone. Still Werder would not accept congratulations about staving off relegation just yet. "The race is still on," said head coach Thomas Schaaf looking ahead to the final three games. Schaaf, Klaus Allofs and Werder players were in unison about the final nine points to be had as well as Werder's clear improvement in the second half and the team's outlook in the final stretch of the season.

Thomas Schaaf: "Important was that we changed a lot in the second half and that straight away from the first seconds on. We made the opposition run and put ourselves in better position. We had to overcome two stages where we put ourselves in trouble. But then we scored the goals and saw that when we move correctly that we can play some good football. Important now is keeping up the concentration and looking from game to game. The race is still on."

Clemens Fritz: "Every one of us knows how important the victory was today. The relief is big because we had a lot of draws in the past few weeks. Mathematically, relegation is still possible, but we now have two home matches ahead of us and should pick up a couple points still."

Per Mertesacker: "We had more fun in the second half. Now we want to finish everything off against Wolfsburg."

Philipp Bargfrede: "Relegation is still theoretically possible so we have to continue this next week. But the victory today was definitely an important step."

Klaus Allofs: "I will accept congratulations for the victory but not yet for staving off relegation. When you look at the results from the other games you know how important the victory here was to avoid getting under pressuring in the coming weeks. Theoretically, relegation is still possible therefore we cannot give the all clear. But now quite a bit has to go wrong. We want to pick up nine points from the final three matches, then we can make up a couple spots on the table. But we don't have any reason to yell out hurray."
