Werder Bremen have not lost in seven matches - that is the biggest positive from the 1-1 draw against Schalke. But there is still the fact that the Green-Whites have had to split the spoils in five of those seven encounters. "That felt like the 50th draw, it felt like a club record in that regard. But in our situation we will gladly take the point," said Petri Pasanen after 90 minutes. "Schalke were a good opponent," added the defender. "It could have gone either way, so the point is in order." Other Green-Whites shared his opinion.
Head coach Thomas Schaaf: "If you take the lead of course you always want to win. Once again we showed a lot of good things but we could not improve them enough so that we could win the game. But that is our current situation. We did some good things but not enough to get the victory. We still have to reach the point where we can make the decisive action."
Manager Klaus Allofs: "You can see it one way or the other if the draw is good or bad. Today we have to be satisfied with it because we could not create the pressure and passing game that we have seen from our team. We were wondering how we could break down Schalke's confidence but we didn't really succeed in that. Schalke still had good chances and we still had a good opportunity through Clemens Fritz. But we are just missing that at the moment - that we score the goals with just a few chances in a game like this."
Tim Wiese: "I guess it's because of the stadium and the renovations that we keep playing to draws here. But we will win a home game again this season. This one point pushed us two spots higher on the table. Both sides had good chances. I think it was pleasant game for the spectators and all told was in order. The times when we win these kinds of games 5-1 appear to be over."
Captain Torsten Frings: "We have to be satisfied with the point against a strong Schalke team. They have so much confidence that it's just not easy to win. Besides, both teams had good chances to decide the game for themselves. Of course we would have liked it if Clemens could have put the ball in after 85 minutes. But then it would have been a lucky victory. Every game that we don't lose is important."
