Manager Klaus Allofs could not hold back his euphoria, happiness and satisfaction after the final whistle. He was asked by a radio reporter in the player's tunnel about the derby victory over Hamburg and sang his team's praises while the fans' chants and cheers from the East Curve were still deafening.
"There is not nicer than these kinds of nights. This is a heated atmosphere in a positive way. It was sensational how we played here. He was sensational how our fans carried us in stages during which we were getting slightly tired. It was a really great victory, a triumph of the will. We absolutely wanted to win and didn't leave any doubts," said Allofs.
Head coach Thomas Schaaf also had only words of praise for his team. "It was a great game about which both teams should be congratulated. It went back and forth. We really did our work very intensively. In the first half we didn't really finish our attacks. In the second half we had the final kick in our attacks. You could see that we were the team that really wanted the three points. We were incisive, effective and had good players up front and in the back," said Schaaf.
