Head coach Thomas Schaaf had a harder time finding words. "I really can't say anything new about him. It looks like he is only getting better with age," said the coach. "Claudio is simply extraordinary. Everything that I said in the last couple weeks was confirmed. He brings us back into the game with the first goal, takes over responsibility with the penalty and then scores to give us the victory. He is on an unbelievable run at the moment and that is lifting him," said manager Klaus Allofs about his goal-getter.
Allofs was also a "goal machine" during his playing days, scoring 177 Bundesliga goals. Pizarro needs just 24 goals to match the Werder manager. "I had always felt pretty secure," grinned Allofs about the shrinking lead. "But if he continues to take jumps like this then I have to come up with something. Maybe we will not play him anymore," joked the Werder manager, who added: "I would gladly give him the mark."
