Elia - Di Santo - goal! This combination has two times in the last two weeks given the Green-Whites important points in the fight against relegation. Against Schalke, Elia and Di Santo combined for a fine goal to make it 1-0 for Werder, one week after they hooked up in Hannover for the equaliser. Werder's summer acquisition and his Dutch assist man are working well together.

"Elli and Franco are really doing a great job. They showed in Hannover that they do an excellent job passing to one another and it really works together. They push the ball forward and really cause problems. Praise to both of them," said Aaron Hunt. The new attack duo received praise from the entire team after two successful matches. "Franco is really rolling at the moment. He wins balls really well up front and Elli is also doing a great job. He's now had two classy assists, you can't really do much better," said Cedrik Makiaki.

Calf bruise and yellow suspension

But there is a bit of a downer. Werder will not have the services of the goal getter against Mainz as Di Santo picked up his fifth in the 27th minute against Schalke. It's aggravating for him and for the team. "That was an unnecessary action, even though I'm not quite sure if you have to show the yellow card for that. Of course he will be missed. But we have other strikers who will compensate for his absence against Mainz," said manager Thomas Eichin.

In addition to the suspension, Di Santo is also dealing with a minor setback. In a challenge with Schalke's Joel Matip, the Argentinean suffered a bruised calf. Therefore he missed Sunday's short bike tour to receive treatment from the physiotherapists. "It's not that bad. I assume that I can train normally next week," said Di Santo, who will celebrate his 24th birthday on Monday. So, there's no reason to mope about the yellow card or the minor injury - especially not for Di Santo.
