No team in the Bundesliga had gone undefeated six straight matches at Bayern Munich. Werder Bremen had the chance to accomplish that on Saturday in the Allianz Arena but in the end lost 4-1.
"We were a thankful opponent, were too harmless and not confident enough to do certain things. Besides, we did not believe in our game. We have not been able to consistently play week for week and call up at least 70 percent of our ability," said head coach Thomas Schaaf. "We did not play as courageously as we had hoped. With a bit more courage something would have been possible because Bayern did not have the certainty," said manager Klaus Allofs. "The defeat was much too high," said captain Clemens Fritz.
More reaction by Werder to the away loss to Bayern:
Sebastian Mielitz: "We were really in the game after equalising it 1-1. I thought we could do something today. But we were not able to make things difficult for our opponents and they mercilessly capitalised on that"
Clemens Fritz: "We stood well in the first 20 minutes, keeping things tight and not allowing any chances. We were on a good way after the goal. I thought maybe there was something here for us. But the penalty broke our backs."
Markus Rosenberg: "If you can take something positive from this game then it would be the goal and the first hour of the game. The goal personally did well. But it didn't help us pick up any points here."
