Another 12 months have passed for the Green-Whites. Highs and lows, victories and defeats - it was an eventful 2014 year along the Weser. In an extensive yearly review, WERDER.DE looks back at the most important events of the last 365 days. In the second part: April to June.
12 April: Werder lose 3-0 at Mainz 05 but the Werder fans continue to celebrate their team more than an hour after the end of the match and fill the empty arena with Werder song chants. "Something like that gives you courage and comfort and shows us that we have our fans behind us," said an impressed Philipp Bargfrede.
19 April: SV Werder beat TSG 1899 Hoffenheim 3-1 in front of a sold-out Weser Stadium and take the decisive step in staving off relegation. In a dramatic match, Philipp Bargfrede Santiago Garcia and Nils Petersen score the goals for the Green-Whites. Keeper Raphael Wolf stops a penalty shot by Sejad Salihovic shortly before the end of the match with the Green-Whites up 2-1, in essence proving to be the game-winner.
03 May: In the last home match of the 2013-14 season, SV Werder beat Hertha Berlin 2-0. In addition, it's the last home match for Sebastian Mielitz, Aleksandar Ignjovski and Aaron Hunt (two goals) who would thereafter leave the club.
13 May: A new man for the defence: The season is barely over and the acquisition of Alejandro Gálvez is announced. The Spanish defender comes from Rayo Vallecano and is the second addition for SVW. Back in January, it was announced that Fin Bartels would move from FC St. Pauli to the Weser. In addition, a week later, Rouven Schröder is introduced as new director of sports.
26 June: Start of the summer preparations: In addition to two training sessions, the 2014-15 season begins for the Werder players with the obligatory lactate test on the Platz 11 grounds.
30 June: Off to the Far East: At 2:30 p.m. the official Werder Bremen China Tour 2014 started at Bremen Airport. The Green-Whites visited the cities of Changchun, Tianjin and Beijing on the seven-day trip. Despite the stress, the Werder players took time upon arriving at the airport in Changchun to say hello to the numerous Chinese Werder fans on hand.
