The past twelve months have simply flown by! Twelve months characterized by highs and lows, disappointments and celebrations, painful setbacks and mutual support. Both the team, as well as the fans, were responsible for some emotional memories through what was a very difficult 2013. The situation on the whole made it tough to maintain an overview and, for that reason, WERDER.DE has put together a comprehensive review of the Green-Whites most exceptional moments throughout the year. Today, in part two: The Online Events of the Year.
The workers in Werder Bremen's CLUB MEDIA department celebrated in May a big success and at the same time a confirmation of their intensive work. The Green-Whites' official German language Twitter channel, run by the CLUB MEDIA, was awarded with the 2013 German Prize for Online Communication.
In early December, CLUB MEDIA expanded its offering of interactive exchange with the next milestone. The new official Green-Whites Instagram profile grants all supporters exclusive insight into the Bundesliga team. Whether that's from the training camp, behind the scenes at a Bundesliga match or on a TV show, fans can follow their favourite team step by step under the motto "Pictures say more than 1,899 words" at instagram.com/werderbremen.
Finally it happened! Almost exactly three years after Werder Bremen started their official and professionally supervised presence on the world's largest social media platform Facebook, another barrier was broken in mid-October 2013 as the site was "Liked" for the 500,000th time. Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Schalke are the only other Bundesliga clubs to reach that mark. "This identification of the supporters makes us very happy. Facebook is an important communication channel in which we provide Green-Whites entertainment but through which we also strengthen the exchange with and among our fans," said media director Tino Polster.
What started a year and a half ago in the summer of 2012 with a one-time open discussion with then new acquisitions Nils Petersen and Assani Lukimya has turned into a regular tradition. The amusing and witty Google Hangouts, video chat conferences in the social network Google+, have become wildly popular among Green-Whites fans and online users of Werder Bremen's social media offering. Regardless if it's leaders such as manager Thomas Eichin, who came on right after taking on his position in February 2013; veterans like Aaron Hunt or Cedrick Makiadi; or past Green-Whites heroes such as Torsten Frings or Ailton, they all came for a "hangout" with fans, bloggers and journalists under the motto "Time for a chat". "I think this kind of communication is very exciting and entertaining. We can gladly do it more often," said manager Thomas Eichin. That's a deal!
