Sebastian Mielitz seemed to have eight arms and six legs as he stopped one chance after another by VfL Wolfsburg Saturday night. One could feel sorry for ‘Miele' on the evening as not even his outstanding performance could hinder a 3-0 defeat at Wolfsburg. The Green-Whites never really got into the game and offered very few arguments on why they should snatch three points in Wolfsburg.
"We were bad today from the beginning to the end. We never found our way into our game and didn't do anything that we wanted to do. We wanted to pass our way through the midfield but we only played long balls. That was a gift for Wolfsburg. Therefore we are very disappointed," said Aaron Hunt after the match.
WERDER.DE collected further reaction from the mixed zone at Volkswagen Arena.
Robin Dutt: "We didn't play a very good match, especially in the first half. You could clearly tell that we were missing a true striker who holds the balls and provides some relief. In addition, we weren't able to get the opponents into challenges. In the second half, we wanted to start anew and we put all our eggs in one basket. In the end, the defeat was highly deserved."
Sebastian Mielitz: "It is difficult to find the right words after this kind of match. Our compact defence had been our big plus lately. We were really tested there today. And there wasn't much of that to be seen. Wolfsburg certainly applied pressure but we just let Wolfsburg play and never really were able to get a grip on the match. But we will stand back up."
Zlatko Junuzovic: "We never got into the game. Wolfsburg put us under pressure from the beginning and scored early to make it 1-0. After that they had two, three more really good chances. We caught ourselves a bit after that and had 10 minutes in which we were able to create a good scoring opportunity and possibly could have scored a goal. But we don't need to look for excuses. It was a very poor performance by us and Wolfsburg deserved the victory."
Thomas Eichin: "It was clear that Wolfsburg would come out like that after the home loss against Braunschweig. Whoever didn't expect that didn't really pay attention. We were just too far back and therefore didn't get into challenges. We need to improve on that as quickly as possible and do better in the next home match."
