Hanging heads after the match. Considering how the match went, they are understandable.

It could have been his night - Felix Kroos shot Werder into the lead 1-0 with an unbelievably cool action. He did a great job winning the ball, was dynamic, kept the overview and displayed perfect shooting technique. But it wouldn't turn into a personal Bundesliga success story as the goal was enough for a point only until Schalke's second goal by Kevin-Prince Boateng.

"I will certainly be happy about it in the coming days, but right now I am aggravated about the loss," Kroos told journalists after the match in the mixed zone. Even when the media members tried to pick him up with the statistic that he needed three fewer Bundesliga matches for his first goal than his brother Toni from Bayern Munich, Felix could just offer a slight smile. "I didn't know until now that he needed 25 matches. But I always knew that I would get it quicker," said Kroos.

Further topics in the mixed zone at Veltins Arena:

Thomas Eichin: "This is really frustrating. We really have to shake ourselves and then look forward. Today we lost three points because we didn't use our chances to make it 2-0, losing two decisive one-on-one showdowns. We don't need to talk about the individual strength of Schalke. They have good individual players, but we missed the chance to beat this team. Altogether we had a good plan and the morale was good. I thought Aaron Hunt was very good, he worked a lot and did a good job passing around the ball."

Robin Dutt: "We started well and used the chance to take the lead. But we should have taken the gift. Altogether, it was a good match. We would have earned a point. We could have hoped for three points and end up standing there with zero points. Football's like that sometimes. We did a good job pressuring them and held off Schalke's pressure for a long time. The difference was that we didn't use two chances up front and then couldn't stop the goals."

Clemens Fritz: "It's always frustrating after losing matches. We did a good job for a long time today and made things difficult for Schalke and really didn't allow a lot of goal chances in the second half. Both of their goals came on half-chances. We just need to pressure earlier on and not allow the crosses. In the end, we just got backed up too much. We showed flashes but Schalke's high quality made the difference."
