The players didn't really know how they should react to the 0-0 draw against SC Freiburg. They missed out on a home victory but they hadn't lost. Once again, they missed out on three points but they haven't lost in four matches. Struggles on offense, but now they have kept a clean sheet in four of nine matches.
"Miele will be happy but our strikers would have gladly seen it differently," said head coach Robin Dutt, speaking from experience. "Draws get their meaning usually with the next match. If they're followed by a victory, they extend a positive streak and are seen positively. If they're followed by a loss, then the draw is worth nothing."
More reaction about the match from the mixed zone:
Clemens Fritz: "We had a good game plan and spread out the pitch. We wanted to do that. But we are not satisfied with the result. We had enough good chances from which we should have used at least one. But we didn't push forward enough in the opposing box. The match showed once again that Freiburg cannot be beaten so easily."
Sebastian Mielitz: "For a goalkeeper, it's always nice not conceding a goal. But I would have been happier if we would have won - even if that wasn't with a clean sheet. You could see that our defensive work is bearing fruit. But we still need to improve on our offensive game even though we created a few chances today. Hopefully the goals will come in the next matches."
Aaron Hunt: "I am not satisfied after the match. The positive about the point is that we are undefeated in the last four matches. But the disappointment is larger."
Cedrick Makiadi: "We kept the clean sheet in the back and were not clever enough up front. But I think we played a bit with more variety in the attack and didn't just play long balls. The fact that we still played long balls is due to our opponents. When they play so deep, playing a long ball can minimise the risk of a really dangerous turnover turning into a silly goal. And they also can create space. But as I said, we also had a good passing game."
