The players could not hold back any longer! After the team clapped hands with the fans in the East Curve after the match, the Green-Whites let out their emotions in the players' tunnel following their 2-0 victory over Hannover 96.
Rarely has a late victory been soooooo deserved! After two losses to start the season's second half, the Green-Whites showed loads of heart and continually raced towards the Hannover goal - building up advantages such as 10-0 in corners and 32-6 on shots. But Werder had to cope with the fact that both of Nils Petersen's goals fell in the final five minutes.
"That relieves so much pressure. You could clearly see that in the celebrations. We did all we could to win this game," sighed a happy Zlatko Junuzovic. "The best thing is that even with the pressure we still wanted to play football. We showed ourselves what we can do if we believe in our own work. We worked day in, day out to not concede any goals. This match gave us the belief that we can do that."
WERDER.DE collected more reaction to the 2-0 triumph over Hannover 96:
Thomas Schaaf: "I am so happy for the team that they brought home three points today. It was very clear to see how determined this team was to collect those three points. It was simply a good performance by us. It didn't matter what the opponents tried to do."
Aaron Hunt: "It took a long time until the goal, but we proved patience and it paid off. Even though we clearly should have scored more goals, we stood very well defensively and did a good job passing our way forward."
Mehmet Ekici: "We forced the victory today. Even in the first half, we built up a lot of pressure and didn't give up anything the whole game and deserved to win. That was a very good performance by the entire team."
Nils Petersen: "Those are the best matches. There was a lot of extra adrenaline. We knew that it would be very important. The fans pushed us forward, which was not self-evident after the first matches. It went back and forth. It was very emotional with a lot of missed chances. Next week we want to keep the mini positive trend going. Everyone showed today that they want to have success with Werder. That was a mature performance by the entire team. We didn't concede a goal and kept creating chances in attack. It was one of the nicest victories I have ever experienced. Everyone did their part. If that happens every week, it would be a dream."
