The Green-Whites needed about half an hour to get into the game but then really dominated the proceedings with a 27-6 shot advantage and 13-3 on corners as the guests were really dominated. "That was pretty tough what we played there. Stuttgart never really were able to free themselves. It was clear that we wouldn't be able to hold that for 90 minutes. But even just before the final whistle we had another huge chance," said head coach Thomas Schaaf, who was satisfied with his team's showing. "You can't blame anybody. They were hungry for a good result. The team is not letting up. Only the final result didn't fit today."

The reaction to the game

Torsten Frings:
"We were the better team and should have scored more goals. Still, we played a good game today. We were missing a bit of confidence in the odd situation. We were lacking the killer instinct, but nobody deliberately shoots wide. The trend remains positive."

Sandro Wagner: "Just like against Mönchengladbach we were the better team. Everyone really ran a lot. After falling behind 1-0, we just shook it off and continued to push forward. But there are days when the ball just doesn't want to go in."

Marko Marin: "We created a lot of chances, passed well and were very dominating. The only thing missing was the second goal."

Clemens Fritz: "The positive is that we played a good match today. We didn't allow much defensively and created a lot of chances up front. We showed some good progress which we now take on to Frankfurt."

Klaus Allofs (Werder Bremen manager): "One positive is that we once again found our way back into the game after falling behind. And we were dominating in every aspect after that: corners, chances, shots on goal. But goals are part of it as well. We just weren't as clever there."
