The relief in the catacombs after Werder's first home victory of the season and the second Bundesliga win in a row was clear to see. The key to the 2-0 victory over VfB Stuttgart was Werder's fighting spirit and passion which Zlatko Junuzovic said were like a "Werder gene" planted into the team by the coaching staff. WERDER.DE collected the reaction from the winners after the match.
Clemens Fritz: "The relief is of course big. We absolutely wanted to keep it going and we did it. Still, there is room to improve. We want to improve step by step and catch the rest of the field from behind."
Zlatko Junuzovic: "This victory is a good step in the right direction. Still, we need to continue to work hard. The most important thing though is that we continue to internalise the Werder gene which the coaching staff planted in us."
Felix Kroos: "It's a major relief for us. We owed the win to our fans. We gave a full 100 percent, everybody ran for each other. It's nice to finally have won at home."
Thomas Eichin: "I am happy that the team withstood the pressure. We know of the quality of the team and now are remaining just as calm as we were in the weeks before. But this is how it goes in football. The pendulum can sway the other way really quickly. At the moment it's in our favour and the shots just happen to go in."
Viktor Skripnik: "Ten days, three victories - that is great. But we still have a long way ahead of us and we cannot be satisfied now but have to remain grounded and continue to work hard. Now we have two weeks. But the victories give us courage."
